Also, with this update, our main product FES-HSR was renamed to Flexibilis Redundant Switch (FRS).

With deep sorrow, we announce that Mr. Tomi Norolampi passed away unexpectedly 15 January 2013. He was Flexibilis Chief Executive Officer and we at Flexibilis will miss him greatly. We send our deepest condolences to his family.

Flexibilis participated in a conference that Moxa, a Taipei-based industrial communications vendor, arranged in early November. The theme of the conference was “Enable a Converged Automation World” and it gathered professionals from smart grid, smart rail, mining and intelligent transportation sectors.

The conference discussed the latest industrial Ethernet and wireless communications solutions. Flexibilis presented there the IEEE1588 standard and its usage in power substation automation as well as Flexibilis’ solutions for IEEE1588, HSR and PRP.

Flexibilis participated in International IEEE Symposium on Precision Clock Synchronization for Measurement, Control and Communication (ISPCS 2012) that was arranged Sept 23th-28th in San Francisco, USA. The event consisted of IEEE1588-2008 plug-fest as well as technical program.

In the plug-fest Flexibilis tested the interoperability between their and other manufacturers’ solutions in time synchronization. This was the first time that IEEE1588 was tested in HSR network in such an event. The testing went very well for Flexibilis and using IEEE1588 in HSR network and substation automation seems very promising.

Flexibilis also took part in Cigre 2012 which is a technical exhibition arranged in Paris, France. It is the leading event for power system experts. Flexibilis presented their HSR/PRP Ethernet switch (FES-HSR) there as well as its interoperability with other manufacturers.

DRS Technologies Canada Ltd has licensed FES-HSR IP Core from Flexibilis Oy. Flexibilis Ethernet Switch with High-availability Seamless Redundancy support (FES-HSR) is a triple-speed (10Mbps/100Mbps/1Gbps) Ethernet Layer 2 switch compatible with IEC 62439-3 Clause 5.

ABB SpA Power System Division (Italy) attended HSR and PTP training at Flexibilis premises 18-20 November. The training was aimed at strengthening the critical communication technology skills of the ABB Spa Power System Division. The training agenda included PTP, HSR, PRP standards, workshops (i.e. Network Design for Critical Real-Time Applications), testing and hands on trainings focused on ABB’s application. Flexibilis received very positive feedback from the attendees. “The training was very interesting, deeply focused on our application and held by one of the world experts of PTP. Also available time was used efficiently” said Mr. Giacomo Parodi, R&D Specialist – Embedded Systems.
